Little Willie
Colonel Ernest Switon had the idea of inventing a tank because hundreds of soldiers always got mowed down by machine gun fire. He got together with the landship commitee and drew up specifications for the tank later to be called Little Willie. The Colonel wanted the tank to be capable of making sharp turns at top speed, have a top speed of four miles per hour, and hold ten people. After drawing the tank, they found out that the tank would only hold three people and had a top speed of three miles per hour. Once this tank became widely available to armies it reformed the way war was fought throughout the rest of World War I. Although there were some minor problems, the tank proved to be worth while.
